As we previously announced, a new free game update will be released for FIFA 18 on May 29. You will be able to enjoy the official World Cup experience, playing as any of the tournament’s 32 teams in any of the 12 stadiums to compete for world football’s biggest prize. If you don’t know exactly what is the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, we will try to introduce it to you.
The World Cup is the world’s most important football tournament. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first edition in 1930, except during the Second World War, and in its history was won by eight nations. Brazil is the country with more wins, five, followed by Germany and Italy with four wins. Argentina, Uruguay, France, England and Spain are the other victory teams. The last edition was played in Brazil but it was Germany to finish in the first place, beaten Messi and his teammates in the final. This year, the tournament will be played in Russia, and it is time to know a bit more about it.
Thirty-two national teams, representing all the FIFA confederations, will play the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

This will be the first ever World Cup to be held in Eastern Europe and also the first appearance for Iceland and Panama.
The tournament has two phases. On the first one, the host team (Russia) and the 31 qualified teams compete in eight groups of four nations each. The top two teams of each group advance to the round of 16. Matches are played on a round-robin basis. In the second phase, the 16 qualified teams play in the knockout stage. If a match is level at the end of normal playing time, extra time is played and followed, if necessary, by a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners.
The champion will be crowned on July, 15 but until that date all we can do is guess who will win the trophy. These are the favourites to become world champions this summer:
Brazil is always a favourite. It’s probably the nation with more quality players in the world.
Argentina, finalist of the last World Cup edition, is led by Lionel Messi, which means that there are no impossibles.
Germany are the current holders and also the first team in the FIFA ranking. For sure they want to equal Brazil’s record of five.
Spain will want to revenge the bad performance in the last world cup, showing to everyone that the 2010 title was not a coincidence.
Finally, Portugal has Cristiano Ronaldo and everyone know how a player like him can make the difference…
