Women in FIFA 14

Women will not be included in FIFA 14. Now, it is official.

Women will not be included in FIFA 14

FIFA games are for anyone. No matter what their gender is. It is what many people think and that’s why Fernanda Schabarum of Boca Raton, Florida started a petition to tell EA Sports to include female characters on their FIFA games.

She justifies that FIFA is “one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time” but “none of the FIFA games has an option for women’s teams or female players”. In her opinion, it “makes no sense” since that “47% of all players are women” and “40% of soccer players in the US are girls”. According to her, “Soccer is the most popular women’s sport in college and in some cases women soccer stars are more well-known than men”. The petition also says that “by offering just men’s teams as playable options on FIFA we’re not only denying these girls a chance to relate to the characters they play on a video game, but we’re also wasting a great opportunity to encourage those same girls to be who they are, develop their passion, motivation and promote a healthy image and relation between women and sports”. It ends asking by Wambach, Sawa, Morgan, Cristiane, Miyama, Rapinoe, Marta, Hope Solo, Mia Hamm and Birgit Prinz in the next FIFA.

You can read the complete petition HERE.

Hope Solo, US goal keeper, is one of the most famous women football players

Even with more than 10,000 signatures, women will not be included in FIFA 14.

About this subject, the FIFA 14 producer Sebastian Enrique said that “it is something we have talked about but there are no plans at the moment”. In order to be possible, “there are lots of things we would have to change though, like the physics would be different, it would affect collisions”. According to him, to include women in a FIFA game, “there are lot of things that are involved” like “new models and hair styles”.

Women in FIFA games could be a great improvement, specially in the Virtual Pro mode.

Maybe in FIFA 15…

  1. Well I get to skip FIFA again. Maybe next year they’ll want to expand their audience. So much for new console (XBox One, PS4), new players.

  2. I don’t get it. How hard can it be to make new models and hairstyles to put the Women in FIFA. In my opinion the Women’s U.S Soccer is better than the mens and it’s more fun to watch and it would be awesome to have females in the FIFA video games.

    1. they’re gonna have to introduce a lot of new things…like running styles…kicking and dribbling animations…a lot other minor changes too.

i think they’ll concentrate on the men’s edition for the time being…although women’s football would be interesting to play

  3. (in some cases women soccer stars are more well-known than men) that is not true because in all my life of being a football fan (Manchester United)i still do not know any woman football player… in my opinion i would just rather fifa add more teams and by that i mean more leagues and more interaction in career mode like the pro be able to negotiate his wage and etc. my point is that it would be a waste of time to add female players when they could use that time and space to improve the what i believe is a great game…

    1. We agree with you. That opinion was from Fernanda Schabarum. We believe that in USA it is normal that some women soccer stars were more well-known than men. They do not live football as we do.

I am dude and when I saw the ultimate team including all these greats. I was asking myself where is Hamm? Women soccer players need to be represented and if it is going to be in the next fifa awesome!!!!! I have wanted to put hamm or wambach on a men’s team that would be cool if they do not..it is understandable.

    Hi
I’m from France, I’m a dude and I’m sure it would be a nice upgrade to the series if they add the women teams and gameplay.
Problem is the situation is not the same on the five continents. Here in Europe, Women soccer is developing at fast pace but it still mostly unknown and not as recognized as the men soccer. Some TV channels begin to schedule some matches played by women but it is still rare (maybe 2 matches per 3 months). In comparison, the L1 (the French Elite championship in men football) games are scheduled every saturday in prime time by Canal+ and Bein Sport, the two major sports networks of the country; Same thing for men Champions league every wednesday and saturday. Even the L2 is more re transmitted than female’s D1. Sure in the US, Women are more recognized but Fifa is a global franchise sold in the entire world. And in the Entire world, I’m afraid there would be some disdain and that’s a shame!

I don’t see this happening anytime soon. It creates a lot of issues.

FIFA is always about making realistic gameplay and physics, giving the players ratings of how much speed, power, and skill they have and teams with more talented players are better.

If there are women’s teams in the game, people will be offended if the women’s skills are a lot lower than the men’s and people will be tempted to play men’s teams vs women’s teams, and if men’s teams are a lot better, again people will be offended.

They could make it so only women’s teams can play against women’s teams, obviously they should just keep it international like United States vs Germany, cause women’s international soccer is popular but league play isn’t.

But even then some people will wonder why they can’t challenge the men’s teams if the want, everyone else in FIFA can play against each in exhibition mode, so they will think it’s sexiest.

And then you consider the research to keep the women’s international rosters accurate and current, and you wonder if it’s really even worth it.
